So for years, I have been mentally returning to a seminar I took with Mike Apple while I was a graduate student in sociology and rural sociology at University of Wisconsin Madison.

              Over the past year or so, a discussion has emerged as to the implications of Barack Obama’s rise and candidacy, for anti-racism in the US and Canada. This conversation is a necessary one. As George Dei asked in a meeting the other day, “what might anti-racism look like in the post-Obama period?” While this question is germane to the US context, we have a little work to do north of the border to even begin that discussion as far as our own political system.

Mother’s Day - May 11, 2008

Today was Mother’s Day. However, it has become so capitalistic that people will kill people to get what they want on this day. My husband insisted on taking me out to dinner even though I insisted on not going. So, after having gone to church and fulfilled my spirit to stand the principalities I will undoubtedly have to fight this week, I consented and prepared to go out to dinner.
