We're going to learn about China with a partner; so grab a friend and let's get started! ![]() ![]() 1) The Chinese Zodiac Do you know what astrology is? Look up the word in your dictionary, and write the definition into your log book. Chinese culture has a different look at astrology than we do. Have your partner write down their birthday, including the year. Now we're going to compare the Chinese Zodiac with the western Zodiac. Find out your partner's western Zodiac sign by going to http://family.astrology.com/kidsprofiles.html. In your travel log, write down their astrological sign, and what the sign's characteristics are. To find out their Chinese Zodiac, look at the following page: http://www.c-c-c.org/chineseculture/zodiac/zodiac.html.Write down your partner's sign, and what the characteristics are. Now look at your own zodiac sign, and read what they say about you. Which one do you agree with more: your Western Zodiac sign, or your Chinese one? 2) Questions With your partner, head on over to http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/China/chinahunt.html. Here, there is a list of 10 questions that you must answer together. All of the questions can be answered using the websites that are given below the questions. Search for the answers, and write them in your travel log. (Make sure that each of you write the answers into your respective travel logs). 3) Chinese Holidays What kind of holidays and celebrations do the Chinese traditionally participate in? Explore Multi-Cultural Calendar and Chinese Celebrations to find out. 4) Orphans in China One of you will now read "A Village for Chinese Orphans", and your partner will read "The Dying Rooms". Both of these articles are about orphan children in China. Print out the articles, and highlight what you consider to be important. When you're done, share the article you read with your partner. 5) Buddhism Many Chinese are faithful to a religion called Buddhism. What are the beliefs of Buddhists?
