From 3000 B.C. to about 300 A.D., Egypt was home to the great civilization of Ancient Egyptians. Did you know that the Ancient Egyptians invented the first calendar? They also created the pyramids and the mummies, which we're going to learn about here!

1)  The ancient Egyptians used a style of writing called "hieroglyphics".  Instead of using letters, pictures were used. Read all about hieroglyphics at Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics, and then go to Write Like an Egyptian to see what your name looks like in Hieroglyphics. Copy it down in your travel log.

2) The Ancient Egyptians lived a lifestyle that was quite different from the one we live today. In your travel log, write about:
a) Egyptian food. What did they eat?

b) Egyptian Clothing. What kinds of clothes did they wear? What were they made of?

3) When people say Egypt, many think of mummies. The process of making a mummy is called "mummification". Check out the following websites. What is the process of making a mummy? Why were the dead buried with all of their possessions?

4) Imagine if the Prime Minister of Canada was elected at the age of 10. That's how old King Tutankhamun when he ascended the throne in Egypt. Read all about him at the following links, and then write a biography on him in your travel log. Include some pictures, and don't forget to mention the curse that is said to be on King Tutankhamun's tomb.
