Borrowing
Privileges
-
McGill students, faculty, and staff must have a valid
University ID card with a machine-readable barcode in order to charge materials
from any of the McGill Libraries
-
Faculty and graduate students from other Quebec or Ontario
Universities may borrow materials on presentation of their University ID
Card and CREPUQ (Quebec) or OCUL(Ontario) card.

Educators and members of the general public may purchase
a membership card at the Administration Office, McLennan Library Building,
Mon.- Fri. 9:00 - 17:00.

A Self-Service Circulation Check out Machine is also
available for your convenience.
Loan
Periods As of January 5, 2004 loan periods and renewals
for regular loan items will be the same for all McGill Libraries. Regular
loans does not include journals, reserve materials, Curriculum Lab materials and
other special collections. Loan periods vary depending on the type
of material, and the collection in which the material is housed.
All books are subject to recall after
14 days.

Reserve Materials
Required readings are placed on short term loan
at the request of instructors. The books, articles and course materials
are shelved behind the Circulation desk. To request an item, go to the
Circulation desk.
Loan periods are 2 hours; 3 days; 1 week. (For details

Reference Collection
Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks, Directories,
Bibliographies, etc are available for consultation and for
library use
only. For additional sources check the
Virtual
Reference Collection

Periodicals
Periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title
on the shelves as you enter the Education Library.
Current issues and unbound issues are for library
use only.
Bound volumes circulate on a one day loan to students
and faculty.

Curriculum Lab Materials
This is a resource collection of elementary and
secondary level textbooks; activity books; teachers guides; audio and video
cassettes; slides; kits; CD-ROMS; Quebec Ministère de l'Education
(MEQ) Curriculum Guides and the Reavis Reading Collection of fastbacks
provided by Phi Delta Kappa

Northern Education Collection
This special collection focuses on Northern Education
and pedagogy. It is shelved at the back of the Curriculum Lab.
Students and educators in Northern communities may
request materials by email or fax. Loan period is 6 weeks.
Local McGill community may borrow materials for
a period of 1 week and may renew items only 3 times.

CDC Children's Literature Collection
This is a representative collection of fiction,
non-fiction, poetry, folklore, biography and picture books for children.
These materials are shelved at the back of the Curriculum Lab.

Limits

Returns & Renewals
Returns
Most Education Library materials may be returned to
any McGill Library except for Curriculum Lab materials,
reserve materials and bound journals.
Renewals
Items other than reserve materials or periodicals may be renewed if not
overdue or requested by another user. Books and other library materials may be
renewed in person, online, or by phone.
Online Renewal
To renew items online, go to the
MUSE
home page and click on Sign In at the top of the page. Enter
your student I.D. number and your PIN in the pop-up menu. (Note: Your PIN
is your date of birth: YYYY/MM/DD.) Click on Your Account at the top of
the screen, and again on the next screen. Click on Loans. Loans must be
renewed one at a time by clicking on the blue number to the left of the
book in question. Click on Renew in the pop-up window for each book.

Books may be renewed by phone by calling 398-4689.

The Self Check-Out Circulation Machine may also be
used to renew books that are not overdue. Holds
Placing a Hold on a Book
-
A user may put a hold on books that
are currently charged out, not including Curriculum Lab material, reserve
materials or journals.

To place a hold on a book, find it in MUSE and click
on the items call number or location in MUSE. Sign in as you would for
online renewals.

A book will be held for 4 days, once it has been returned.
Receiving a Recall Notice
-
When a book is recalled the borrower will receive
a recall notice by mail. The book is now due on the new date listed.
-
All borrowers are guaranteed the use of a book from
the general collection for a minimum of 14 days.
-
Fines for recalled items are $2.00 per day.
Fines
-
For general stack material, overdue fines are $0.50
per day.

For reserve material:
2hr loan -- $0.02 per minute
3 day or 1 week loans & Periodicals-- $2.00 per day.

Recall fines are $2.00 per day. When you receive the
recall notice, be sure to check for the new date due.

Fines accrue for every day (or hour, for reserve) an
item is overdue, regardless of whether the library is open.

Exact change is required for the payment of fines.
-
A fine of $10.00 or more will block borrowing and
renewal privileges.
