These awards was established by the EGSS and first
offered in spring 2007. We have had a wonderful response and are
pleased to be able to recognize the fantastic work of the graduate
students in the Faculty of Education. Four awards exist, as outlined
below. Applications will be distributed in March and generally have a
deadline in early May.

Master’s
Professional Leadership Award
This award was established to recognize the community leadership and
professional involvement of a Master’s student in the Faculty of
Education. Valued at $500, this is granted to a student (full-time or
part-time) who has been enrolled in a non-thesis degree for at least
one semester. The purpose of this award is to recognize a student who
has applied his/her academic learning and made a distinctive
contribution to the profession or wider community. The award recipient
will be selected on the basis of involvement in community and
professional activities above and beyond program requirements, as
demonstrated through the student’s personal statement and
curriculum vitae, as well as academic merit in terms of grade point
average and other academic distinctions.
Research Excellence Award
This award was established to recognize the research excellence of a
Master’s student in the Faculty of Education. This $500 award is
granted to a student (full-time or part-time) who has been enrolled in
a thesis degree program for at least one semester. The purpose of this
award is to recognize a student who has been involved in research above
and beyond program requirements, and has made a distinctive
contribution to the profession and/or the wider community through this
research. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of aptitude
for research demonstrated through the student’s personal
statement and scholarly productivity (publications and presentations),
as well as academic merit in terms of grade point average and other
academic distinctions.

Doctoral
Doctoral Awards for Research and
Professional Excellence
Two awards for research and professional excellence are granted to
outstanding PhD students in the Faculty of Education. These awards,
valued at $1000 each, recognize students who have applied their
research or academic learning and have made distinctive contributions
to the profession or wider community. The award recipients will be
selected on the basis of: (a) academic merit in terms of grade point
average and other academic distinctions, (b) aptitude for research, and
(c) leadership, as assessed by the student’s curriculum vitae and
personal statement demonstrating research excellence and professional
involvement above and beyond program requirements.
