Intermediate Program
Exploring Indonesia as a Guide
is led by Tina Hausen — For grades 4 – 9
Have you ever wanted to visit and explore faraway, tropical, volcanic islands where Komodo dragons and pre-stone age man still exist? In this activity I will introduce you to some of the diverse peoples and parts of Indonesia (Bali, Celebes, Java, Lombok, Papua) through the use of maps, fi lms, slides, books and meeting members of the Indonesian community living in Montreal. Examples of eco-tourism, intercultural exchanges and development projects will be shared. You will select a part of the Indonesian archipelago that interests
you and become a young guide/entrepreneur in that area. You will make a 3-D model of your island; design a business card, a travel itinerary, development or cultural exchange program; and create a logo and name for your enterprise as well as a brochure/website to entice young people to visit. You will represent Indonesia at an International
Convention. A visit to the Biodome “jungle”, Insectarium or to an Asian market to buy foods to prepare for the convention may be offered as fieldtrips.
This activity will only be offered in weeks 1 and 2 |
