Treatment

Home
Please note: The Centre no longer receives funding from the MSSS to provide treatment for youth gambling problems.
 Our approach
On an outpatient basis, we have a limited number of spaces to provide individual therapy to youth who are experiencing serious gambling problems. The approach taken at our centre tailors the therapy to an individual's needs. Each person has their own motivations for gambling and as such we do not assume that all gamblers are the same.

We believe that the individual seeking help must assume responsibility for their progress. Some decide to stop "cold turkey," while others decrease gradually. We provide a supportive environment to help individuals decrease their gambling and help them effectively cope with daily and long term stressors. Confidentiality is assured.

 Therapeutic philosophy
Our experience suggests that many young people are attracted to gambling as it may provide excitement and/or an escape from problems. We also know that gambling can become a way of dealing with stress. Our therapy addresses underlying personal and social issues and encourages the development of healthy coping styles. The overall goal is to empower youth to proactively deal with their problems and to engage in healthier activities.
How do I know if I need help?
Trouble limiting the time and money you spend gambling?
Feel the need to hide your gambling behavior from others?
Gambling interfering with different areas of your life such as school and/or work?
Continue to gamble in order to recoup losses?

These are some of the signs that may suggest that it's worthwhile to seek help. Take the quiz to find out more. A meeting with one of our psychologists will help you determine whether therapy is a good option for you.
