The Twelfth Annual Education Career Fair 2003, organized by the Education Undergraduate Society as well as the Career & Placement Service will take place on Monday, February 3, 2003 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will be held in the Ballroom of the William Shatner Student Union Building. The career fair provides Education students with the opportunity to meet the representatives of prospective employers and to become familiar with their respective schools and programs. Many final year students find employment at this fair, whether it is to work for a school board or to work for a teaching organization abroad.

We would like all Education students to attend this event. Even first year students can find valuable information at the fair. We are asking for your help to get the message across to all students by briefly talking to them about it. DRAWINGS AS A BRIDGE FOR PRESERVICE TEACHERS TO LEARN ABOUT CONCEPTUAL TEACHING

You are invited to come and hear Dr. Nancy Ellis, University of Vermont, speak about her research with Dr. Alyson Whyte, Auburn University (Alabama), on the use of drawings as a bridge for pre-service teachers to learn about conceptual teaching.

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Jeffrey G. Powell, PhD candidate in Educational Psychology, option School/Applied Child Psychology, will defend his thesis on Tuesday, January 28 at 1:00, (1:15 for the public), in Room 233. Topic of his dissertation: Gambling in young adolescence and young adulthood: An examination of social support provided by family and peer networks across level of gambling involvement.

Once again, the Faculty of Education is holding its annual "Parenting in the New Millennium" workshop series. We are offering 17 English workshops presented by speakers from various Montreal universities, hospitals, school boards and the private sector. Some of the issues that will be addressed focus on education, communication, power struggles, self-esteem building, discipline and various behavioural concerns and disorders. The 2003 workshop series will be held Wednesday evenings at the Faculty of Education from February 5th to April 9th. Pre-registration is highly recommended due to space limitation.
