1 Harvard Institute on Connecting the Mind, Brain, and Education

With summer just around the corner, I wanted to invite you to apply to the upcoming Connecting the Mind, Brain, and Education Institute, taking place June 22-27, 2003 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. We expect it to be an intellectually stimulating and invigorating program, and would encourage you and other interested colleagues to apply.

The program is designed for faculty and doctoral students associated with teacher education programs and/or who teach cognitive and developmental psychology. Academic faculty, researchers, and students interested in the latest research in the areas of the mind, brain, and education will also benefit by attending.

The program will focus on assessing and integrating the latest research in neuroscience, cognitive science, and educational practice. Through lectures and discussions, leading faculty from Harvard and other prestigious institutions will share their research and explore the powerful connections among these disciplines. Some of the sessions will include:

1. Can cognitive science inform educational practice? What has research revealed about how these two areas inform each other?

2. What current research in neuroscience may hold the most potential for educators?

3. How can dynamic modeling identify meaningful links among cognitive science, neuroscience, and education?

You can visit www.gse.harvard.edu/ppe for general information on Harvard's professional programs in education, and visit http://www.gse.harvard.edu/ppe/programs/mbe/program.html for specific information about the institute as well as to apply online immediately. If you have any questions, please contact Beth Bogner, Program Coordinator, at 617-495-0766 or beth_bogner@gse.harvard.edu

I hope to see you on the Harvard campus this summer!

Marc Schwartz
Institute Chair
