1 Reminder to Chairs, Program Directors and Faculty Members

Research
All funded and non funded research must have ethical approval before it is undertaken. This applies to all faculty members and students

Ethics Approval and Summer Session
Please advise members and students in your department they if they need approval of Ethical Certificates for funded and non-funded research, we would appreciate receiving their applications by June 15th in order that we can process them within a reasonable time frame. This is especially important if they plan to conduct research during the months of July and August.

Ethics/Annual Renewal
Reminder: Faculty members who received research grants last year (e.g. SSHRC 2002) need to apply for an annual renewal this year. If the protocols have not been changed, do the following:

Complete the signature page (the top sheet in our ethics package which lists member of the ethics committee), check off the line ANNUAL RENEWAL, INDICATE GRANTING AGENCY AND SIGN.

If protocols or design have changed, do the following:

Complete the signature page (the top sheet in our ethics package which lists member of the ethics committee), check off the line annual renewal, indicate granting agency, sign and append the changes to this sheet.

External Evaluators
PLEASE BE ADVISED OF THE UNIVERSITY POLICY WITH RESPECT TO CHOICE OF EXTERNAL EVALUATORS FOR THESIS:

"I CERTIFY THAT THE ABOVE NOMINATIONS OF EXAMINERS HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OR BY A COMMITTEE AUTHORIZED FOR THIS PURPOSE. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, THERE IS NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST BETWEEN THE CANDIDATE OR THE SUPERVISOR AND THE PROPOSED EXAMINERS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE DEPARTMENT IS NOT TO CONTACT THE EXTERNAL EXAMINERS WITH REGARD TO THE EVALUATION OF THIS THESIS."

2 SCTP Note To All Chairs, Directors, Program Directors

Please note that all changes of modality (e.g. off campus sites, change in delivery of course content) reporting must be approved by Faculty before submission to the Subcommittee on Courses and Teaching Programs. The changes must include an appropriate program proposal form indicating Faculty approval. Any International Project must include a detailed budget, list of human resources, and a copy of the memorandum of understanding or agreement.

3 Final Call for Nominations to Standing Committees

Nominating Committee is putting forward the following slate of new members for Faculty Committees for 2003-2006. Terms are for three years unless otherwise noted. Some positions still remain to be filled – volunteers welcome. Current committee membership and mandates can be found in the Faculty Handbook at www.education.mcgill.ca/main/pdf/FacultyHandbook.pdf

Further nominations will be accepted until Friday May 23rd. Please use the appended nomination form. If elections are necessary, they will be held (tentatively) May 30th -June 3rd.
