2 McGill University’s “Silent Hour Policy”

Colleagues:

Please be advised of the University’s “Silent Hour Policy” which would affect all groups and/or Departments hosting events in the Education building during the weekend and/or outside regular building hours.

The Education Building is officially closed on the weekend; however, the Education Library is open on Saturdays (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Sundays (11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), and the computer lab on Saturdays (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).  Porter and custodial services are at a minimum during this period.

Any request to have the building opened outside of regular building hours incurs a cost of $ 45/hr for a minimum of 4 hours ($ 180.00).  Use of the building to host an event such as a conference during silent building hours requires the services of a porter, for set-up and to handle any safety issues that may arise (i.e. fire, broken pipes, heating, etc..), as well as that of the custodial department.  Therefore a one day weekend conference, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. would incur a cost of approximately $450.00 ($ 45 x 10hrs) and should be included in all planning budgets.

Please clear any requests for the use of the Faculty of Education property during silent hours with the Department Chair and the Building Director prior to making any commitment.

Thank you for your attention in this matter and should you require additional information and clarification on the subject, please do not hesitate to contact this office.

3 Whatever happened to MARS?

With student registration switching to Banner/Minerva, what ever happened to the MARS telephone registration system?

The Associate Registrar (Records) Steve Olive reports that MARS was decommissioned as of 2:15 PM November 7, 2002.

Since January 1st, 1992 MARS had handled 6,145,956 calls.
