1 Fire Drill Exercise

The Faculty of Education had its first Fire Drill on Thursday October 11th, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. The University Fire Prevention Officer was concerned with the results. Our evacuation time was one of the longest at the University, 15 minutes! The evacuation time for a building the size and capacity of the Faculty of Education is a maximum of 4 minutes! In addition to the excessively long evacuation time, there were reported incidents of individuals not vacating the premises. This is unacceptable and against Fire Evacuation protocol.

We strongly encourage all Faculty and non-Faculty members to review the Fire Evacuation diagrams that are posted throughout the building, and to remind everyone that one must also be aware of the exit routes not only from our offices, but also from our classrooms and labs. Please note that there are two stairwells in the Faculty of Education Building to choose from, the front as well as the back stairwell.

Upon exiting the building, the Fire Prevention Officer requests that we move away from all terraces and ramps as well as any and all exits. This is extremely important, for the allowance of quick and easy access of Emergency Response Teams. With these said recommendations, I am certain that we will be prepared for any future REAL emergencies. Due to recent occurrences in the world we must take such exercises seriously so as to be prepared for all and any eventualities.

2 First Aid in the Workplace Program

Certified CPR/First Aid Employees

Every Faculty at McGill University is mandated to have a certain number of Certified CPR/First Aid Employees in relation to the number of employees in the Faculty. At the Faculty of Education, we are required to have four certified employees for the Education Building and one certified employee for Duggan House.

We are pleased to offer CPR/First Aid Certification to Education academic and non-academic staff. The training is free of cost. If you wish to participate, please inform me as soon as possible. When approval is granted, registration is available on the web at; www.mcgill.ca/eso/training/training01a.htm
