| The Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching
The Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching was established last year in order to recognize excellence and commitment to teaching and the importance of these qualities in the academic experience of students at McGill.
All of the nominees were of an exceptional calibre and McGill is privileged to have amongst its ranks such outstanding educators. The Committee had the arduous task of choosing from this pool four individuals who through their dedication and commitment to teaching have made an impact not only in their particular departments and faculties but more importantly in the lives of their students, as can be witnessed by the myriad of letters that accompanied the nominations.
It is my pleasure to inform you that the winners of the 2001 Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching are Carolyn Pittenger, Centre for the Study and Teaching of Writing, Faculty of Education, in the category of Faculty Lecturer; Andrew Kirk, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, in the category of Assistant Professor; Gordon Roberts, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, in the category of Associate Professor; and David Harpp, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, in the category of Full Professor.
Please join me in extending McGill's heartiest congratulations to these teachers who are indeed pursuing a very noble profession.
Dr. Bernard J. Shapiro
Principal and Vice-Chancellor
