August 29 - Hurricane Katrina devastates  New Orleans and surrounding area.  The official death toll now stands at 1,325 and the damage from US$70 to $130 billion

September 1, 2005 - Educational Psychology course Course begins.

September 24 - Hurricane Rita - 119 dead.

September 27 -  Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean  installed as Canada's 27th Governor-General

          October 2 - Tour boat Ethan Allen capsizes on Lake George, NY, killing 22.
October 8 - Earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hits Pakistan wreaking damage on Islamabad and Indian-controlled Kashmir.  Estimated 54,000 killed, schools destroyed. Children buried alive.
 
October 15 - Millions More March on Washington, commemorating the Million Man March of 1995.
 
October 19 - Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's trial began.

October 24 - Rosa Parks, instrumental in the racial equality movement in the United States, died.

October 25 - Hurricane Wilma, the twenty-first named storm, twelfth hurricane, and sixth major hurricane of the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, made several landfalls especially in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Cuba, and the U.S. state of Florida. 47 deaths were reported, and insured damage was estimated at between US$15-20 billion, making Wilma among the top 10 costliest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic ocean.

October 27 - To demonstrate "Functional Fixedness" in class, Professor Cartwright tears a telephone book in half with his bare hands.

November 1 - First use of Cool.McGill in this course uploading PowerPoint slides and sound to the Cool.McGill server.

November 5 -  Evanston Illinois, - worst tornado in 30 years ripped through town, killing 22.

November 6 -  Mayor Gerald Tremblay of Montreal re-elected.

November 15 - Improved sound with Cool.McGill using a condenser, wireless mike to improve quality for this and all subsequent lectures.

November 22 - Professor Cartwright named Visiting Fellow, Wolfson College, Cambridge University.  He will spend several months there in 2006.

November 27 - Edmonton wins Grey Cup, beating Montreal Alouettes.

November 28 - The government of :Paul Martin falls on a vote of no-confidence.

November 29 - Last lecture in the course.
