The first Chair of Education in a Canadian university was endowed in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University in 1908 by Sir William Macdonald, the famous, non-smoking,  tobacco magnate.  The holders of the Chairs are as follows:

• 1^st Macdonald Professor of Education –  Prof. J.A. Dale (1908-1920)
