Nelson Lamorande, a native of Manitoba, lives alone with his dogs by the Hudson Bay Railway, on the shore of Armstrong Lake, north of Thompson, Manitoba.  A small generator in his front yard gives him electrical power during the summer.  A former construction worker skilled at dynamiting, at age 81 he takes the train every Wednesday and Friday south to Thompson and back to check his lottery numbers.  The crew on board VIA Rail's train, the Hudson Bay, know to stop for Nelson at his front door.  If he does not appear, they stop the train and go in to check if he's all right.
