Bienvenue - Welcome to
le Pélican

This site is a resource centre for teachers who wish to embark upon an adventure with their students in the educational possibilities of a late seventeenth-century French naval vessel and early Canadian history.

Le Pélican may be viewed as a micocosm of French society and culture. As a "spaceship" of its day, it may also be thought of as a window on the people and culture of France and New France of which it was a part.

Le Pélican was at the center of the greatest arctic sea battle in North American history. Her victorious Captain, Canadian-born, Pierre LeMoyne was a skilled soldier-seaman, a hero of New France and the scourge of the English.

With the personal invitation of

Pierre Le Moyne Seigneur d'Iberville et d'Ardillières
